Vegas Pro 14.0 lessons

Part 4 of many

Let’s continue our exploration of the Vegas Pro UI and features.

If you have the desire or screen real estate, you can create your own customized Window Layouts. To do so, grab the gripper on an existing panel to pop it out, then combine it with another panel by dropping it in its place.

To save this new layout, View > Windows Layouts > Save Layout As.

You can resize the windows and that’s pretty intuitive, but one thing I learned is that you can also remove panels by going to View > Windows > and unchecking the panel you wish to remove or hide. The opposite is true if you wish to re-add a panel you removed or closed.

Just some basic terminology that Vegas Pro uses that will aid us later.

Generated Media are the files created in the Vegas Media Generator tab that can be used within your project.

Events are time period containers that are placed on your timeline. They can be full or trimmed files from your Media Files tab.

You can use bins to better organize your media in your Project Media tab. This is a useful feature once you have many files and file types in your project.

There are several pre-existing bins for Audio, Video, and Stills (images). However, you can create your own bins by right-clicking Media Bins > Create New Bin. You then have to drag media into this new bin.

To select multiple events on the timeline, you can use the Selection Edit Tool at the bottom of the UI, just under the timeline.

Once you have multiple Vegas projects created, you can nest them together so you can combine them. Open the project that you wish to be the “parent” project, select an empty spot on the timeline, then File > Import > Media and select your other projects. Then drag it from your Project Media into your timeline and that’s how easy it is to nest projects.

That’s it for now. Until next time!
