Edhi Foundation is the single best foundation across Pakistan and one of the best social welfare service providers across the world running on a non-commercial, non-political, and non-communal basis, serving round-the-clock without any discrimination of color, class, and creed is enjoying exclusive credentials in the shape of awards and shields conferred upon Mr. Abdul Sattar Edhi and Mrs. Bilquis Edhi by governmental and non-governmental organizations on a national and international level for rendering their exemplary services to humanity in multidimensional fields.

The diversified fields in which Abdul Sattar Edhi played his greatest role for; saving the lives of thousands of newborn babies by placing the cradles outside the Edhi centers, fostering the abandoned babies and children, free nurturing disabled and handicapped people, free caring and feeding women and elderly people who were subjected to torture or neglected by their families, free supporting to ailing patients by providing free medication and medicines through his mobile dispensaries, hospitals, and the diabetic center at Karachi.

Low educated in philanthropy — yet highly self-educated and highly qualified in the knowledge of Philanthropy,

Low certified in education — yet highly educated and highly qualified, relatively to those who are having highly educated and highly qualified degrees, yet mostly never take any step ahead to give education to the needy and helpless people

Low profile and self-effacing man — yet enjoying King-like popularity, respect, and prestige across the globe

Edhi is being called as Abu (in Urdu) Father or Nana (in Urdu) Grandfather by the children being fostered at Edhi homes, whilst other people call him the “Rahmet Kaa Firishtah” means Angel of Mercy, all these realities indicated that Edhi has been descended on earth by God Almighty to save, foster, and take care of the neglected, deprived, and abandoned children, disabled people, elderly helpless men, and women, injured, mentally retarded, drugs addicted, natural disasters’ affected people, and so on.

the experience was really overwhelming, as it was for the first time we as a group doing something for the noble cause of humanity, my whole group was so excited about this activity, and it was really soothing like we did something for humanity, the response from the group was positive and they were self-motivated about collecting funds, one thing that we as a come across while collecting funds were EDHI is not just an altruist, he is a phenomenon. We all are EDHI if we do something for humanity. We did meetings, made strategies, and then make it actionable by coming out of our comfort zone.

I as a group leader, approach the Amal alumni’s who did this activity before and it was an amazing experience to work with them, they were so happy that they were given a chance to work with Amal again in this noble cause, I learned a lot of forms them that how to deal with this kind of challenges and overcome failures. We as a group almost reached more than 1000+ people through social media and in person. To get motivated I motived my group members to start from themselves, this will give you a sense of motivation and energy to work for this cause more effectively and it really works, a lot of our donation was from our own friends and families. So the overall experience of convincing people as a group was good but felt disappointed at some points when people were not even responding, most of my group members put WhatsApp statuses, and send messages in groups and individually.

One of the disturbing challenges was the lockdown in different areas, as activity was more effective if we got the chance to go door to door and collect funds, do seminars and motivational talk about this, but due to covid-19 lockdown most of our activities were online and we did almost all the work online, which was not as much effective.

Most people even didn’t know how to donate and how to use a different application to donate, so it was one of the biggest challenges that I faced during collection.

Some of the challenges that my group members faced

· The challenge that I faced was that I had to muster up the courage to convince people even when they were not responding. I had to come out of my comfort zone and tried more than one time to convince others. One of my friends agreed to donate but she didn’t know how to do it and I guided her as much as possible. But in the end, she still couldn’t do it, so she begged pardon.

· Some people were not responding to my messages some even said okay, but they did nothing. I tried to convince them by talking with them on voice call.

We shared the messages of EDHI sahib through social media so that everyone comes to know the real cause of Edhi sahib

We did text, and motivational messages so that they can donate as much as they can.

We individually called them and told them the real cause and how their donation can help the needy and poor.

We also shared the letter and other relevant stuff so that they can take this initiative seriously.

“For a man is (only) what he strives for”

“Never give up” it’s probably one of the most cliché phrases we will hear while we are in the struggle phase, but there’s a reason behind these sayings are cliches… we never know the reason when success really does lie around the next corner but staying positive and persistent about these prospects can be tricky amid all doom and gloom.

So this experience has helped us to accept failure as we have learned that one can face disappointments in life and not everything can go according to one’s expectations. But you must accept it and keep moving forward.
