Three Strange Mysteries That Have Never Been Solved

Some secrets remain elusive

Those with an interest in crime enjoy hunting for fascinating cases, and unsolved mysteries are amongst the most gripping stories out there. From strange kidnappings to unexplained disasters, human beings have always been drawn to that which cannot be explained.

Naturally, people enjoy sharing theories about unsolved mysteries, and the following cases are no exception. But despite how many people have examined these three crimes, we still don’t know what really happened.

West Virginia’s most perplexing mystery occurred on Christmas Day in 1945.

In the early hours of the morning, Jeannie Sodder woke up to the smell of smoke. She left the bedroom to investigate and saw flames spreading through the ground floor of the house. She rushed back to the bedroom to wake up her husband.

George and Jeannie then did their utmost to rescue their nine children from the flames. Though they managed to save four of their children, five of them remained trapped inside. By the time the firefighters arrived, the Sodders’ home had been reduced to a smoking, ash-covered ruin.

Everyone assumed the five children had been killed by the flames, but they were wrong. Though investigators searched the ruins, the children’s bodies were never found.

George and Jeannie had plenty of other reasons to be suspicious. A phone line at the Sodder household had been cut, and a late-night bus driver said he saw someone throwing ‘balls of fire’ onto the Sodders’ roof. Other people claimed to have seen the missing children shortly after the fire took place, including a manager who said he saw the Sodder children at his motel.

Alongside other supposed sightings over the years, George and Jeannie hired a private investigator to help them solve the case. But the truth was never discovered.

To this day, we still don’t know what happened to the missing Sodder children.
