Just for Today May Be Enough

Narrowing your focus is the antidote to worry

Worrying about tomorrow today can kill any happiness or peace today. Let’s think about that.

Can we fix what happens tomorrow today? No, but we can prepare for it. So, we worry, right? Sure we do. We play a neverending game of, “What if” that we can never win. Let’s face it, we can “what if” until the sky falls and not make a bit of difference in what happens tomorrow.

Does this mean we shouldn't be prepared or plan? No. It means that we want to approach what might happen tomorrow with a realistic attitude based on an assessment of what is probable vs. what is possible.

The more important the facts and the greater the likelihood, the more we need to prepare and vice versa. Yet, we fuss, fret, and worry today away over things that prove to be improbable, and sometimes, impossible.

Maybe the solution is to do what we can to prepare and mitigate what probably might happen tomorrow and then release it and turn our attention to right now. Yeah, it’s easier said than done. I know. I’m a chronic worrier.

But I know we can do it if we deliberately focus on the present and set an intention to experience what is happening as it happens at this moment, and this moment, and this moment. Is it easy? Not always because our ever-vigilant brains are always on the lookout for danger and tempting us to forget today and worry about tomorrow.
