As a former recruiter in an e-commerce firm, we thrived on hiring the best talent for our company. Something I didn’t know as a job applicant was that it’s always the nanoscopic mistakes which made me and my fellow colleagues reject applications.

A recruiter looks at your application for less than 30 seconds. What does your application have that hundreds of others do not?

Here are the 5 most common mistakes, and what can you do to rectify them.

Resumes which come in can be a single page long or sometimes even three.

Some countries and companies look for long and elaborative resumes whereas some look for short bullet points.

Research about what resume is ideal in your country and what resume does your company prefer.

Often, applications come in following a generic format with general information which may or may not match the role you are applying for.

A hack to this issue is to customise your resume.

As a reader, I am guilty of leaving many articles mid-way due to poor formatting.

Imagine reading a stellar resume until you see they haven’t capitalised nouns.

Leave some time between editing. Do final edits half a day or a day later.
