We Need CHANGE!

Changing Citenzship in the Digital Age is an eye opening subject matter to read. Its something we can all relate to with how we feel with our emotions dealing with the many sore subjects of Black Lives Matter, how the youth is getting involved and how their engament is making a change. After all it is the youth who is the generation who has to embark on this new journey.

THE CHANGING DEFINTION OF A DIGITAL CITIZEN:

There are many different ways you can look at this. Its dilemmas and or limiations are that said in the reading “there is a problem with youth civic engagement, but it is not located inside young people’s heads. Institutions are also at fault. Telling young people to participate in bad institutions ismere propaganda. On the other hand, young people need to be taught and encouraged to take part in reform efforts and other aspects of politics.”

The benifits would definitly be that the world is now changing vastly into digital, we are all catagroized to digital citizens. Our life is now altered and changed into how we shape our thinking process of our politicians, political views, social matters, ext. It is the youth who does think they have a handle on the matters but the adults obviously have been around the block and back concerning these topics.

There is a huge outcome with engaged or disengaged youth! It is better to be engaged than to not. The reading says “younger generations have disconnected from conventional politics and government in alarming numbers.” it continues on by saying “The path ways to disconnection from government are many: adults are frequently negative about politics, the tone of the pressis often cynical, candidates seldom appeal directly to young voters on their own terms about their concerns, politician shave poisoned the public”

Changing citzenship in the digital media does obediently fulfill one’s duty. Its depending on which ones duty.

HOW IT EFFECTS US, HOW IT EFFECTS ME.

Todays day and age we lack communication. Were so comfortable to say something over the phone in text than in person or even talking to someone over the phone. We grow up with a phone in our hands usually by the time we step foot in middle school. I agree with the reading when it said “We know that digital media provide those young people who have access to it ..However, as Howard Rhein gold notes in this volume, many young people live online, but they may lack the skills to communicate their common concerns in effective ways to larger (public) audiences.”

RELEVANCE: this becomes relevant to me because i am the ‘youth’. Eventually what we do now as a whole effects the future in todays world. “Youth workers who design civic education programs, often based on unexamined assumptions about what citizenship should be, can benefit from learning how generational social identities and political preference formation are changing so they can design more engaging civic education models.”

We (the youth) need to be in the REAL world and not in the world of social media because social media isnt real and this digital age is going to grow large in population if everyone continues to just base their thoughts on social media.

GENERAL THOUGHTS:

I definitly believe that the digital age greatly helps with the matters of LGBT, Equality, Black Lives Matters, ect. Its all in our fingertips and in such a short reach to have our voice be heard. Like the reading said, “Students developed impressive public voices using avariety of digital media, from interactive Websites to streamed video publica ffairs programming.” The youth, us, ME definitly do want to get invollved.

But we need C-H-A-N-G-E to never have to face these issues again. We need to live in a generation, a world, that uses the tools of the digital age with the citizens to be stern about the politcial leaders who are going to run our country!
