The Southern Virginia University’s baseball team has been back on the field working hard to prepare for the 2022 season that is fast approaching. With the new season, they are looking forward to a fresh start and welcoming in new players to the team. They are ready to come back stronger and hit the season out of the ballpark (pun intended).

After the 2021 baseball season, the team is working on being better on the offense, by creating opportunities to score runs and throw strikes. With the beginning of the USA South Conference, the team is ready to step up and compete with their new competition.

Head Coach Schlegelmilch says, “I really think that we can compete with anybody. Competing and winning consistently is a little tougher deal. But we will do alright, we will be fine.”

Although there are obstacles in the way such as not having their own field and the uncertainty of the weather, the players are all excited to get back out there and start the season.

Mitchell Smith (‘24), second baseman, states, “I’m just really excited to be able to get back on the field again. I mean, it’s been a long year now and I’m just excited because it’s a new year, a new beginning where you start fresh. I think it’s just knowing the potential and the group of guys and the talent that we have this year moving forward. Excited to have those friendships out there and to be able to go compete and be better than last year.”

The Knights will kick off their season with an away game on Feb. 15 against East Mennonite.

Come and support our baseball team!
